*Lead Actress: Depth and range of characterization is important. Must be off book quickly with the ability to hold energy and to act out the intent of each of the 15 letters consistently.
Crystal Waterman: African-American Female - (age range 28-39) - Mama
Character Description: Crystal is witty, sarcastic and has an urgency to tell her story through letters. She’s dying with End Stage AIDS. Her life is filled with addiction and trauma.
*Lead Vocalist (acting involved): High Soprano and Operatic Vocal Ability. Must play piano/keyboard.
Raine Crystal’ Waterman: African-American Female - (age range 25-35) - Modern Day Daughter
Character Description: Raine learns about her Mama’s life through letters she receives. As Raine reads the letters about her mama; through song she sings, harmonize and plays the piano/keyboard about her mama’s pain, trauma and addiction.
ABOUT THE STORY: Play written and directed by Evie Rhodes. "LTTSGW" is an coming of age story from the lens of a forgotten black female voice during the AIDS epidemic in the 1990’s. This is a story of a daughter's love for her mother, the disease of addiction and how it feeds trauma. Through the ravaging effects of this terminal illness, a woman discovers the true value of living through dying.
Both Candidates:
Must have theater/stage experience with references that will be checked. Must be available during the day and evening/night hours. Must be able to rehearse on your own time as well as with others to keep content fresh and consistent.
Must take direction well. Technical knowledge of theater acting and blocking is important.
Must be able to share (social media), promote, and talk to other about the project. This is a continuous position. We want someone who understands the needs of the company and the importance of this story.
